Gilly Shaeffer

Gilly's life long interest in art and love of nature drew her to the study of botanical art in 1994. She received the Anne Marie Evans' Watercolor Certificate from the New York Botanical Gardens. Gilly's work has been exhibited in several international juried exhibitions which include: the Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and United States Botanic Garden, Washington, D.C. In 2000, she received the Georg Jensen Award for her painting during the 3rd Annual Horticultural Society of New York/ASBA Exhibit.

In 2004, Gilly's work was selected to be in the11th International Exhibition of Botanical Art and Illustration held at the Hunt Institute of Botanical Documentation at the Carnegie Mellon University. Her work is now a part of their permanent collection.

Gilly has served as president of the Botanical Artist Guild of Southern California from 1999 to 2005. She has taught botanical art techniques at Otis College of Art and Design and at the Virginia Robinson Gardens in Beverly Hills. She currently teaches botanical illustration and watercolor painting at her home studio in Los Angeles.
