Hello to Everyone—Members, Friends and Guests,

Welcome to the BAGSC website and to a monthly ‘kind of a newsletter’ that I shall be writing. It will have snippets of information about classes, growth of membership, exhibitions and anything else I can think of that hopefully will be of interest and should be mentioned.

In this This and That…, I want to give kudos to the Board, Committee Chairs and members that work tirelessly to bring you wonderful and different programs, who are updating the website to better serve you, and the numerous other tasks that make the running of BAGSC go smoothly. They all devote countless hours on Zoom, by email and telephone, communicating and planning.

Since becoming President six weeks ago, I have come to realize just how many hours every member of the Board and Committees spend on behalf of BAGSC. It is an honor and privilege to work with such a devoted and brilliant group of people. Thank you all for your patience and understanding in helping me.

One of the reasons we are all members of BAGSC is our love of botanical art and illustration. Part of that love is painting what we love, whether a flower portrait, a dead leaf or some special part of a rare plant. I have heard from several members that during the pandemic that they haven’t felt like painting. Well, Spring is here and now’s the time to START PAINTING.

Although we don’t have dates just yet, the future exhibitions are on the website. The idea is that you pick a subject and start to paint now. One exhibition will be in the Library at the Los Angeles Arboretum in September so perhaps start with a subject for that one? Or you can go through the drawer with unfinished paintings and finish some of them. If you haven’t painted recently, now’s the time to get out the paint and brushes and start.

You can read about my endeavors in a separate short article on the blog entitled ‘Quick Paintings’.

We will be posting more information about upcoming exhibitions in the weeks ahead, along with submission forms, so please stay tuned.

If you have any questions or would like to contact me, please email me. I would be pleased to hear from you.
