BAGSC August 2025 Painting Day at The Huntington: Magnolias, Fruits and Vegetables
Members Only, August 23, 2025
Join us for an open painting/drawing/reference photography day at The Huntington (BAGSC Members only) on Saturday, August 23! We will meet in Banta Hall at the Brody Botanical Center at The Huntington, where we can work on our Huntington magnolia and vegetable garden projects.
Arrive/leave anytime between 9 am – 3 pm. Specimens will be gathered ahead of our arrival and available in Banta Hall to draw, paint, and take reference photographs. We can choose to work in any dry media or watercolor.
All BAGSC members are eligible to participate in these projects, and ongoing information will be emailed to members.
There will be no admission charge that day for registered members. Members should park and walk directly to the Brody Lab in the Botanical Building. Bring everything you will need for the day in addition to your art supplies, including water bottle, sunscreen, hat, and comfortable walking shoes.
The Ranch garden is closed to the public this day, but BAGSC members will be allowed in to draw/paint in the Ranch Garden. The Kitchen Garden is open to the public, and visitors may come into the Brody and watch us work in Banta Hall. Of course the Gardens are all open—BAGSC members must abide by the rules and restrictions about drawing/painting in the Gardens, blocking paths and taking samples as outlined in The Huntington's Gardens Art Guild, (GAG) sent to all BAGSC members in the email blast.
Lunch
Lunch is on your own. Eat at any of The Huntington's open cafés, or bring your own. The Huntington has reserved the Danner Conference Room (also in the Brody) for us to eat in. Eating is not allowed in Banta Hall, or in the Garden, or anywhere else in the building or public spaces.
Gardens Art Guild sign up
If you have not yet filled out and sent in your GAG form, you can do so in person during our painting day. The GAG pass allows BAGSC members to paint on the grounds. The GAG application has been emailed to all BAGSC members. Please email media@bagsc.org if you need another form sent to you. Please review all guidelines and regulations for GAG artists.
Please remember that The Huntington requires a GAG pass for any painting or drawing outside (you can draw in Banta Hall no problem).
Next painting opportunity for Magnolias, Fruits and Vegetables at The Huntington
Will be at our quarterly meeting on Saturday, September 6, 2025, also in the Brody. We are planning to set up and publish a calendar of painting days—stay tuned.
Coming a long way?Interested in staying overnight? Unfortunately, as of this writing there is no availability at our usual Pasadena spot, the Saga Motel, but there is availability at the Ramada Windham, the Roadway Inn and Courtyard by Marriot. We are not endorsing these and prices vary widely, so do your research!
And, as always, carpooling is encouraged!
