BAGSC Exhibitions

Current and upcoming BAGSC exhibitions, 2022

BAGSC works to provide as many exhibition opportunities as possible to our members to participate in both juried and non-juried shows. Exhibitions fulfill our personal growth as artists and allow us to have a conversation with the public about botanical art, conservation, plant information and more. We provide educational outreach in conjunction with our exhibitions whenever possible.

We encourage all our members to submit their artwork to exhibitions, no matter where they are in their artistic development.

Plants for Dry Climates

Our Southern California landscape is hot and dry during the summer months, with little or no rainfall. This BAGSC group exhibition in the Library at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden will showcase cacti, succulents and California Natives and other plants that grow in this environment and are adapted to both heat and low water supply.

The Potager, Orchard and other Edibles

This group show of the Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California presented at the Brody Botanical Center, The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens celebrates edibles from the garden, especially those which grow in the vegetable gardens, kitchen gardens, or potagers.

This Juried exhibition will coincide with the Fourth ASBA/New York Botanical Garden Triennial exhibition, celebrating heirloom plants and crop diversity. This includes examples of identified heirloom plants as well as wild relatives of plants that are important to human survival.

More information about the Triennial can be found on the ASBA website.

Cacti and Succulents

This group show of the Botanical Artists Guild of Southern California presented on the BAGSC wall at the Brody Botanical Center, The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens explores the fantastic forms and colors of cacti and succulents.

Succulents are fleshy plants that store water. This ability makes them ideal for hot, dry climates like Southern California. Included in the “succulent category” are Cacti which are succulents with areoles (small bumps on the cacti where clusters of spines grow). This group of plants offers a vast array of opportunities for the artist to find a plant to love.

Cycads

This BAGSC group exhibition at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens will dive into Cycads, ancient seed-producing plants that flourished during the Jurassic Period (about 206 to 144 million years ago). These living fossils grow in tropical and subtropical regions of the world today, and The Huntington has a breathtaking collection.

For botanical artists, these plants present a unique challenge.

Submission details will be posted soon!
