BAGSC December 14, 2024
Quarterly Meeting
Asuka Hishiki will be our very special guest presenter for our BAGSC December Holiday Party! Join us on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 9:30 am Pacific Time for our members-only quarterly meeting.
The presentation will be recorded—Asuka has generously agreed to allow us to record her demonstration so those who are unable to participate on the day of the live event will be able to view it later. The recording will be available for two (2) weeks following the workshop, only for those BAGSC members who have RSVP'd. You must RSVP by December 13 to attend live or to view the recording. Everyone who signs up for the workshop will have access to both the workshop and the recording.This is a demonstration format presentation. You may draw along if you choose, but we will not be reviewing or commenting on participants' work. There will be time at the end of the workshop for questions.Renowned for her award-winning tomato and vegetable portraits in stunning realism as well as her conceptual art addressing environmental issues, Asuka will share her techniques and answer your questions. BAGSC is delighted to offer this presentation free of charge to our members. This is a wonderful opportunity to watch an international botanical art star as she demonstrates how she achieves such dynamic textures and values.
Asuka is a recent gold medalist at the RHS and was awarded a bronze for her entry to the NYBG’s Curious Allies show. Asuka teaches internationally and at ABSA conferences. She recently returned to Japan from a three-week residency at Oak Spring Garden.
Also, during this meeting you’ll hear information about:
BAGSC Elections;

About the Instructor
Asuka Hishiki in her studio, © 2022.
Asuka Hishiki’s work encompasses drawings of rare endangered plants to paintings of more familiar vegetables found in the home and garden, vividly painted in astonishing detail.
For the past decade, her work has addressed environmental issues and the survival of the natural world, including large-scale installations using recycled paper on the migratory patterns of monarch butterflies. Hishiki has also participated in residencies at renowned botanical gardens around the world as part of a decades-long initiative to produce vast visual records (florilegia) of contemporary botanical documentation.
