It's that time of year for BAGSC's annual 'Day of Botanical Art'. The theme this year is Medicinal Uses of Native California Plants. This event will be via Zoom Webinar on Saturday, February 12,2022.
BAGSC is honored to begin the day with our guest speaker Dr. James Adams, an expert on medicinal native plants in Southern California. Dr. Adams is a retired Pharmacology professor at USC and an expert in the healing plants of the Chumash. His book, “Healing with Medicinal Plants of the West: Cultural and Scientific Basis for their Use, 4th edition” includes the plants that form the basis for the day’s botanical art program.
Following Dr. Adams' presentation four artists have chosen plants from Dr.Adams' book to demonstrate their technique. The artists include:
Maria “Cissy” Freeman on how to create a study sheet in graphite and watercolor, demonstrating Heteromeles arbutifolia (Toyon, or California Holly)
Nina Antze demonstrating colored pencil techniques with Sambucus nigra (Elderberry)
Lesley Randall demonstrating pen and ink techniques with Quercus lobata (Valley Oak)
Donnett Vanek demonstrating watercolor techniques with Oenothera californica (California Primrose)
Registration fees are $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Each session will be recorded. Registrants will receive links following the 'Day of Botanical Art' event to view/review all of the presentations.
Since we are using the Webinar format, there are no registration limitations. Participants will be emailed the Zoom webinar link before the event (you won't receive the link in your confirmation email).
